When Leslie Lovell and Francis Allen got married in April 2014 instead of receiving presents they asked their guests to make donations to start The Little Free Library in Savannah. Inspired by artist Panhandle Slim’s portrait of Flannery O’Connor, Allen decided to approach the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home Foundation in Savannah. And thus the Little Free Library Flannery O’Connor Book Trail was born. This collaborative effort also includes help from Christine Sajecki, outgoing board president of the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, Jared Hall, project manager at the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, Jeremiah Jossim, the carpenter behind the building of the libraries, and Courtnay Coco Papy, creative director and artist. Lovell, Allan and Papy were kind enough to answer some questions about the project.
