We’re excited to announce that you’ll be able to find us on May 12 at Moxie Craft Fest in Brunswick, GA! We love the crafty community and we’re excited to be a part of this fabulous craft fair. Founded in November of 2015, this will be Moxie’s fourth market. We asked Moxie founder Jenny Van’t Land (whose own business, Free Spirit Jenny, is also featured in our spring issue) to tell us a little more about the event.

It was like they were my tribe and they got it.
I was lucky enough to find an amazing creative community that was just starting to really blossom in Charlotte, NC where we used to live. There was this awesome indie craft market that I participated in and I absolutely fell in love with the atmosphere and the group of people that it attracted. Plus, I found that my embroidery did really well at that type of market. It was like they were my tribe and they got it.
What inspired you to found Moxie Craft Fest?
When I moved to the Golden Isles, I was immediately impressed at the amount of art markets and events that were held in the area, especially for it being pretty small. However, I couldn’t really find a market that was my niche. I was looking for something a little edgier–maybe geared toward a younger crowd. So I started wondering if I could start my own, and that’s where Moxie was born. I wrote as many Etsy sellers from our area as I could to find out if it would be something they would be interested in, and the response was so positive, so I went for it!
What has been your favorite part of running Moxie?
Moxie has opened up so many doors for me to connect with like-minded makers and creatives. The relationships and friendships that have come out of Moxie are unbelievable. So many artists in our area have supported each other’s businesses because they met at Moxie. I now have maker friends from Savannah all the way down to Jacksonville–we’re like a little tribe that looks out for each other and roots each other on.

What can visitors to Moxie expect? What's new this year?
You can expect an edgy, modern atmosphere of unique makers and entrepreneurs when you attend Moxie. We take a lot of pride in carefully curating our vendors to appeal to our demographic. I’ve heard several people describe it as walking into a “real life Etsy.” I guess that’s a good way to look at it! Moxie vendors put a lot of care into what they make and everything is on trend. This year besides our awesome handmade vendors, we’ll also have some fun, folksy live music, delicious food from The Farmer & the Larder, and an adorable gourmet doughnut food truck! Plus beer and wine. It’s definitely going to be more of a festival type event. Plus, it’s a night market this time, so that puts a fun, new twist on everything!
