Today we’re sharing a guest blog post from Chelsea Kester, owner of Wildflower Gypsy. Chelsea’s hair and beauty products are all-natural and filled with botanical essences that make them as beautiful to look at as they are to smell and use. We asked Chelsea to share some DIY tips with us on how to incorporate more natural products into our daily routines. Today she’s sharing a DIY lavender mist that’s simple to make, and next week she’ll be back with tips on building your own home apothecary.
Lavender is one of those magical plants that I’m constantly mesmerized by. She smells incredible, induces a calm aura, feels comforting and has a host of health benefits. So with that, I’m sharing how to incorporate lovely lavender into your daily beauty rituals and home life with a simple DIY lavender mist.
First of all you’ll need a quality lavender essential oil. I personally use organic lavender essential oil from Plant Therapy. I have found their quality, testing and pricing is perfect for what I’m looking for. As with any essential oil company, check to see if their oils are tested through GC/MS testing and if possible purchase organic. GC/MS testing validates the purity of the oil and organic ensures no pesticide residue.
- Distilled water
- Organic sunflower oil
- Organic Lavender essential oil
- 2oz. glass or PET bottle with spray top
- Measuring cup with pour spout
- 1/4 C Measuring Cup
- Measuring spoon
- Metal spoon to mix ingredients
- Label, if you desire
Okay, now that you’re all set let’s make our magical mist!
Gather supplies and ingredients on a clean surface
Measure out .5 teaspoon of organic sunflower oil. Add the sunflower oil to your pour spout measuring cup.
Next add 24 drops of lavender essential oil to the sunflower oil.
Once you’ve added your essential oil, measure out 1/4 C distilled water. Add the distilled water to your pour spout measuring cup.
Gently mix all of your ingredients together.
Slowly pour the mixture into your 2oz spray bottle.
Cap and label if desired. We left ours blank to repurpose the bottle once done. Shake well before each use and avoid eye contact, just in case!
Your newly blended Lavender Spray can be used in so many ways. Shake well and spray on your pillow before bed to encourage calmness before sleep. Use as a gentle facial toner once you’ve washed your face to calm any redness or irritation. I personally love to use it at home for bug bites and red ant bites to lessen the burn or itch and encourage healthy skin growth. The uses are truly endless! I’d love to hear how your incorporate this spray into your everyday regime.
I hope this Lavender Spray sparked some excitement and curiosity into the wild world of essential oils and aromatherapy. Because this spray is free from preservatives, it will last about 1 month at room temperature, and up to 2 months if refrigerated. Stay tuned for our next blog post where I cover some great products to have on hand for your Home Apothecary.
